About

The Cusius Ecomuseum began life in 1997 as an initiative of Piedmont regional council, as part of a scheme to promote local heritage.

The museum is a joint venture between various bodies (municipal councils, community councils, other museums, and sites of interest). The various bodies involved in the museum coordinate their activities to promote the local area and safeguard its unique history, culture, environment and traditions.

The Cusius Ecomuseum is therefore not a physical museum as such, but a form of collaboration between various local organisations. The Ecomuseum offers tourists a vast range of information on places to visit and local events. It also provides a network through which local bodies can work together and combine forces to achieve shared objectives. The Ecomuseum allows local people to coordinate actions aimed at conserving their traditions and culture and transmitting them to the younger generation via a series of didactic initiatives and offerings for schools. Piedmont regional council is the first in Italy to run an ecomuseum workshop, drawing inspiration from the extensive experience of other European countries.
